With so much to consider, it’s challenging to know how to navigate through the “new norm” and how couples who are looking to tie the knot this year should adapt. If you’re one of the many couples who have been impacted by COVID-19 this year, here’s our guide on how to host a wedding in 2020.

Keep It Small

If you were planning to host a grand event with 100+ people at your wedding, you’re going to have to scrap that guest list. It’s important to remember that we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, even as the numbers dissipate. Keeping events as small and intimate as possible is the safest route while abiding by government regulations. The smaller it is, the easier and safer it will be to manage and organize.

Use a Bigger Venue to Provide Extra Space

Even with a smaller guest list, it’s a good idea to choose a wedding venue that’s larger in size so you can have ample space to spread out and maintain social distancing as much as possible.

Provide Masks and Sanitizer

Before guests arrive, have masks and hand sanitizer prepped and ready for them to use. Masks are still mandatory when inside, so have some spare ones on hand in case people forget to bring their own. Also, make sure all of your guests are fully aware that they’ll need to wear masks inside with no exceptions. Place a few bottles of hand sanitizer throughout the space so there’s always access to it.

No Buffet Style

The buffet-style set up is a no-go for this year. Instead, make sure the catered food is plated for your guests to minimize germs and points of contact.

Make Sure Bubbles Sit Together

When creating seating plans, remember to place “bubbles” of family and friends together. Ask your guests ahead of time to ensure that you’re placing the right clusters together at the same tables.

Use Designated Cups with Names

To prevent cross-contamination, place labels on cups so that guests don’t accidentally drink from the wrong cup.

If you’re hosting a wedding in 2020, allow our team at St. Elias Centre to help make it as memorable and enjoyable as possible.
